UB Baseball Grabs First Win Of 2015 Topping Bentley, 5-2, To Open Spring Trip To Florida
Bridgeport Plates Three Runs In Top Of The Ninth To Gran The Win
Winter Park, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up its first win of the 2015 season on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights snapped a 2-2 tie by pushing across three runs in the top of the ninth inning to grab a 5-2 victory over the Bentley University Falcons in a game played at Rollins College. Bridgeport is now 1-5 on the season, and Bentley slips to 2-8 on the year,
Two of the three UB runs in the ninth inning were unearned as junior Bryan Kondor (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.) were credited with runs batted in the ninth.
The three-run ninth made a winner out of sophomore Anthony Alicki (Milford, Conn.) who is now 1-1 on the season. Alicki worked two innings of one-hit relief with three strikeouts.
Senior Brian O'Keefe (Milford, Conn.) started for the Purple Knights and worked seven innings in which he allowed five hits and two runs (both earned) while striking out seven.
Negron and senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) led the UB offensive attack on Thursday, as they each had two hits.
Up next for the UB baseball team will be a pair of games to be played at the University of Tampa on Friday, as the Purple Knights will play Bentley once again at 10:00 a.m. followed by Stonehill at 2:00 p.m.
