Purple Knights Swept in 2014 Regular Season Baseball Finale By # 20 Southern New Hampshire
Team Must Now Wait For Sunday's ECC Results To See If UB Earns A Spot In 2014 Conference Championship Tournament
West Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team closed out its 2014 regular season schedule by dropping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader versus the number 20 ranked in the nation Southern New Hampshire University Penmen at West Haven High School on Saturday afternoon. SNHU took game one, 7-2, and the Penmen completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory in the nightcap. The Purple Knights are now 17-26-1, and SNHU raised its overall record to 34-12 with the two wins.
In the opener, Bridgeport junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) went 3-for-3, and sophomore Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.), each drove in a run.
In game two, freshman Casey Oullette (New Canaan, Conn.) went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Senior Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.) had hit hits and two RBI, and freshman Casey McCone chipped in two base knocks.
The Purple Knights must now wait and see the results of Sunday's East Coast Conference to see if the team earns a spot in next week's 2014 ECC Championship Tournament. If both Molly and LIU Post lose tomorrow, UB will earn the number three seed in the ECC tourney. IF Molloy wins and LIU Post loses, Bridgeport will be the number four seed next week, and if both teams win, the Purple Knights' 2014 season will be over.
