Host Dominican Defeats UB Baseball, 11-7, In Non-Conference Action
Purple Knights To Close Out Regular Season Versus Southern New Hampshire On Saturday
Pomona, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw the host Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 9-5 lead which they never relinquished on their way to an 11-7 non-conference win over the visiting Purple Knights on Friday evening at the Provident Bank Ballpark. With the loss, UB is now 17-24-1, and the Chargers up their overall season mark to 20-22.
Five different Bridgeport players had two hits on Friday, as the team had 13 hits in the losing effort. Garnering those two hits apiece for the Purple Knights were Dylan Steigerwald (Fr., Holbrook, N.Y.), Casey Oullette (Fr., New Canaan, Conn.), Casey McCone (Fr., Milford, Conn.), Alec Jannotta (So., Branford, Conn.) and junior Mike Miniter (Branford, Conn.).
Jannotta and Miniter each had two runs batted in, as did junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.)
The Purple Knights will now close out their 2014 regular season schedule at West Haven High School, tomorrow, Saturday, May 3, when they host the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
