Baseball Stumbles In Series Finale Versus LIU Post
Purple Knights Must Now Wait And See If They Qualify For ECC Championship Tournament
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team could not close out a four-game series sweep over the LIU Post Pioneers on Sunday afternoon, as the visitors broke open a 2-1 game with eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab a 10-1 victory. With the loss, UB is now 17-23-1 overall and finishes East Coast Conference play at 11-13. LIU Post is now 16-18 overall and 9-11. Having completed their ECC slate of games, the Purple Knights must now wait and see the outcome of next weekend's conference play to see if they will qualify of the conference championship tournament which will begin on Thursday, May 8.
On Sunday, UB was limited to only five singles over the nine innings of play. Sophomore Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) drove in UB's lone run on the afternoon with a second inning single.
The UB baseball team will now play four non-conference games next week to close out the 2014 regular season beginning with a trip to Wilmington (Del.) University on Thursday.
