Purple Knights Drop ECC Baseball Doubleheader At Dowling
Teams Will Close Out Their Four-Game Conference Series On Wednesday Afternoon.
Brookhaven, N.Y.-It was a tough afternoon on Long Island for the University of Bridgeport baseball team, as the Purple Knights saw their losing streak extended to eight games in a row, as the Purple Knights dropped both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader to the host Dowling College Golden Lions, 5-3 in game one, and 10-0 in game two. UB is now 6-14 overall and 0-7 in the ECC. Dowling raises its overall mark to 15-7 and its conference record to 6-1.
In game one, the Golden Lions railed from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring four runs to grab the win. In the opener, junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) had three hits for the Purple Knights, and junior Mike Perry (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Paul Menendez (Miami, Fla.) each had two hits. Perry and freshman Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) drove in runs for Bridgeport.
In the nightcap, the Purple Knights were limited to only two hits.
The same two teams will close out their four-game ECC series on Wednesday afternoon at Dowling with a single nine-inning game that will begin at 3:00 p.m., and Bridgeport will serve as the home team.
