Baseball Suffers ECC Series Sweep Against St. Thomas Aquinas
Purple Knights Fall In Sunday Doubleheader By Scores Of 7-5 And 3-2
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team lost both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon versus the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, 7-5 and 3-2. The games were played at NYIT in Old Westbury, New York. With Sunday's two losses, the Purple Knights are now 6-12 overall and 0-4 in the ECC. STAC raises its overall mark to 10-5, and the Spartans are 4-0 in conference play.
In game one, junior Mike Perry (East Haven, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with a run batted in, and classmate Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.), each ahd a pair of hit.
In the nightcap, the Purple Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of runs driven in by Mike Perry in the top of the first inning, but STAC rallied to post the win and complete the series sweep. Freshman hurler Sal Lovaglio (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was the tough luck loser in game two, as he worked a complete game gong six innings in which he allowed on one earned run, nine hits, and he fanned two and walked two.
The UB baseball team is next scheduled to be in action at home versus Post University on Tuesday, March 25, when the Purple Knights will look to snap a five-game losing skid with a 3:00 p.m. single game.
