Bridgeport Baseball Wraps Up Opening Weekend Of 2014 Season At 2-2
UB Downed By Southern New Hampshire, 5-2, On Sunday
Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team closed out its 2014 season-opening weekend trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a 5-2 loss against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen on Sunday morning. UB closed out the opening weekend of the season at 2-2, and Sunday's wins ups SNU's overall record to 3-2.
Bridgeport trailed 2-0 before tying things up at 2-2 in the sixth inning. The Penmen would then plate a pair of runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead which they would not give up.
Seniors Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.) and Brock Roggie (Lowville, N.Y.) each had two hits for the Purple Knights. Freshmen Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) and Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) each had a run batted in.
Freshman left-hander Sal Lovaglio (Dix Hills, N.Y.) took the loss in relief for the Purple Knights allowing two unearned runs.
The Bridgeport baseball team now returns to chilly Connecticut for two weeks before heading back to warmer temperatures in Florida on March 9, when the team begins its annual Spring Trip to the Sunshine State with a pair of games versus Stonehill College at Rollins University in Winter Park.
