UB Earns ECC Baseball Series Split With 6-1 Win At Queens (N.Y.) College
Purple Knights Now An Even 6-6 In Conference Play
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up its second straight road win over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights to split a four-game series on Tuesday afternoon in New York City, as the Purple Knights posted a 6-1 East Coast Conference victory. UB is now 12-15 overall and an even 6-6 in the ECC. QC is now 11-17 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
Senior Jose-Luis Garcia (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman Bryan Kondor (Shelton, Conn.) each had two hits for the winners. Garcia drove in one run, as did junior John Ascenzia (West Haven. Conn.), and sophomore Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) blasted his second home run of 2013, a solo shot in the top of the second inning.
Starting pitcher Mike Nowak (Latham, N.Y.) worked seven strong innings in which he allowed five hits, one earned run and fanned five, to earn his team-leading fourth win of 2013.
The UB baseball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon at Post University in Waterbury, Conn. Game time for this non-conference tilt is set for 3:30 p.m.
