Baseball Nipped By Host Southern Connecticut State, 5-4, In 12 Innings
Purple Knights Return To Conference Play At Dowling on Friday
New Haven, Conn.-The host Southern Connecticut State University Owls tied the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth and won the game with a run in the bottom of the twelfth inning, as SCSU prevailed 5-4 over the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference baseball game played on a frigid Wednesday afternoon in the Elm City. With loss, UB is now 7-12 on the season, and the Owls up their season mark to 13-7-1.
Senior Mike Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Purple Knights, plus he knocked in a pair of runs.
Junior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) and freshman Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) each drove in a run for Bridgeport. As a team, UB had nine hits on the afternoon.
The Bridgeport baseball team is back in action on Friday afternoon when they return to East Coast Conference action at Dowling College. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
