Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale At Molloy, 5-2
UB Will Open Play In ECC Championship On Thursday Afternoon
Uniondale, N.Y.-After clinching a spot in the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday, the University of Bridgeport baseball team dropped its 2012 regular season finale on the road to Molloy College, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and pick up the victory. UB heads into the 2012 ECC Championship Tournament which will begin on Thursday afternoon at site to be determined with a 16-19 overall record. UB finished 2012 with an even 12-12 record in conference play. Sunday's loss also snaps a seven-game winning streak for the Purple Knights. Molloy wraps up their season at 20-28 overall and 10-14 in the ECC.
Junior John Ciuffo (Stamford, Conn.) drove in both UB runs with a home run in the the second inning on Sunday.
Sophomore Ryan Garcia (Franklin Square, N.Y.), the fourth of four Bridgeport pitchers on the day, took the loss allowing three runs in two innings of work. Garcia is now 2-1 on the year.
