Bats Come Alive In Baseball's 12-6 ECC Win At Dowling
!2 Runs Are A 2012 Season-High For The Purple Knights
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team exploded for six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to obliterate a 4-4 tie, as the Purple Knights posted a 12-6 East Coast Conference victory over the host Dowling College Golden Lions on a cool and windy Tuesday afternoon on Long Island. The 12 runs are a 2012 single-game high for UB. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 10-18 overall and 6-11 in conference play. Dowling is now 16-15 overall and 14-6 in the ECC.
Senior Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) went 2-for-5 at the plate with three runs batted in, two of which came in the big six-run fourth inning. Junior Mike Doran (Milford, Conn.) also went 2-for-5 at the plate with three runs batted in on the day.
Senior Ryan Barba (Stratford, Conn.) had two hits and two RBI for the winners. Junior Mike Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) had two hits, scored three runs and drove in one for UB, and senior Matt Nassi (N. Providence, R.I.) also chipped in two hits and an RBI on the afternoon.
Sophomore Ryan Garcia (Franklin Square, N.Y.), the second of four Bridgeport pitchers on the day, picked up the win on the mound. Garcia is now 2-0 in 2012.
The Bridgeport baseball team will continue its quest to gain a berth in the 2012 ECC Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon with a single game at Queens (N.Y.) College. Action is scheduled to begin in Flushing at 12 noon.
