Baseball Drops A Pair of Pitchers' Duals To C.W. Post
Pioneers Win Game One, 2-1, Take Game Two, 3-1
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team was swept in a home East Coast Conference doubleheader by C.W. Post University, as the Purple Knights lost a pair of pitchers' duals falling in game one, 2-1, and losing game two, 3-1. UB is now 8-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play. CWP raises its overall record to 18-13, and the Pioneers are now 11-3 in the ECC.
The Pioneers pushed across an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning in game one to post the 2-1 win. Senior Nick Vautrin (S. Hadley, Mass.) was the hard-luck loser in game one, as he pitched a complete game in which he allowed only four hits, two runs (none earned), and he struck out six. Vautrin is now 2-6 on the season.
Junior T.J. Mangan (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in the Purple Knights' only run in the opener.
In game two, C.W. Post scored a run in the third and two more in the sixth inning to take the 3-1 victory.
Senior Ryan Barba (Stratford, Conn.) had a double and drove in Bridgeport's lone score in the nightcap.
The same two teams will meet again on Long Island for a single, nine-inning game on Sunday that begins at 1:00 p.m.
