Baseball Rolls On With 7-4 Win At Mercy
Schlitter's Bat And Vautrin's Arm Help Lead Purple Knights To The Victory
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Junior Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in two runs, plus classmate, pitcher Nick Vautrin (South Hadley, Mass.) pitched a nine-inning complete game in which he allowed eight hits and fanned eight batters, as the University of Bridgeport baseball team picked a 7-4 East Coast Conference road win over the Mercy College Mavericks on Thursday afternoon. The win is UB's fourth in a row and the team's tenth in its last 12 games. Bridgeport is now 25-10 overall and 18-7 in the ECC. Mercy sees its overall record drop to 16-27, and the Mavericks are now 9-15 in conference play.
With the complete game victory, Vautrin is now 4-3 on the season.
On offense for the Purple Knights, joining Schlitter in the multiple hit column were seniors Peter Barrows (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Gaetano Giunta (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who each had two hits on the afternoon.
Bridgeport and Mercy will continue their five-game East Coast Conference series with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Mercy. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
