Baseball Sees Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped At Post
Purple Knights Drop 4-2 Non-Conference Decision To Eagles
Waterbury, Conn.-The Post University Eagles (14-7) scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the host team notched a 4-2 non-conference baseball win over the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights (11-6) on Thursday afternoon. The loss snaps a six-game Bridgeport winning streak.
Junior Tom Wiacek (Bolton Landing, N.Y.) was the tough-luck loser in relief for the Purple Knights, as he did not allow an earned run in 2.2 innings on the mound. Wiacek has now pitched a total of 16.1 innings so far in 2011 without allowing an earned run, but his overall record is 0-2.
Senior Gaetano Guinta (Brooklyn, NY) had two hits for UB, as did junior Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Junior Matt Ranaudo (Milford, Conn.) had one hit and had the tying run batted in for the Purple Knights in the top of the eighth when he was hit by a pitch.
Bridgeport will look to start another winning streak on Saturday when UB hosts Nyack College in a non-conference doubleheader. Action gets underway at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard at 12 noon,
