Dimaio and Rodrigues Awarded UB's Purple Knights of the Week (March 31 - April 6)
Tara Dimaio, Women's Lacrosse | Jeremy Rodrigues, Baseball
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following several standout efforts last week, junior Tara Dimaio of the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team and senior Jeremy Rodrigues of the baseball squad have been tabbed as UB's Purple Knights of the Week, for the week ending April 6.
Dimaio, who was named the CACC's Co-Player of the Week on Monday, put together a dynamic stretch of performances last week. The Long Islander stuffed the stat sheet with totals of 14 goals, 12 draw controls, eight caused turnovers and eight ground balls across three games in which Bridgeport went 2-1. Dimaio also dished out an assist in each of the contests. Dimaio currently ranks first in the CACC in both ground balls (3.55) and caused turnovers (2.64) per game this season. She ranks second on UB in total points (43).
Rodrigues joined Dimaio with remarkable numbers of his own this past week. The senior captain went 8-for-12 (.667) with eight runs scored and 11 RBIs during UB's four games. Rodrigues was especially impressive in a Friday win over Georgian Court when he hit for the cycle while piling up eight total RBIs. He added another home run on Sunday, signifying his 22nd career long ball. Rodrigues currently leads UB in almost every offensive category, including batting average (.345), on-base percentage (.439), total hits (39) and slugging percentage (.602).
