Women's Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award
Purple Knights totaled a cumulative GPA of 3.37 following the fall 2023 semester.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following another sensational semester in the classroom, the University of Bridgeport's women's cross country squad was named one of U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic Teams on Thursday.
The Purple Knights totaled a cumulative GPA of 3.37 following the fall 2023 semester. UB also met the criteria of the All-Academic award by competing in the NCAA East Regional, a meet they raced in for the first time in program history.
Coach Schmidt's squad finished 15th at the regional championship with sophomore Emilia Russell leading the way with a 94th-place finish.
The Purple Knights are coming off a year in which they earned the CACC's team award for the highest GPA across all women's cross country programs in the conference.
To qualify for All-Academic Team status by the USTFCCCA, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet.
