Volleyball Continues Conference Roll With Home Sweep Over Chestnut Hill
Purple Knights Now 7-0 In The CACC And 14-3 Overall
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team returned to Hubbell Gym on Saturday afternoon and remained undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at 7-0, as the Purple Knights picked up a straight sets, 25-22, 25-18, 26-24, victory over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College. Bridgeport has also now won four matches in a row and 10 of their last 11 outings, as they are now 14-3 overall. CHC is now 6-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Hailey Jessen (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the UB offensive attack on Saturday with a team and match-high 14 kills.
Datari Mathis (Grad., Wethersfield, Conn.) was in line in kills with eight and junior Samantha Cilluffo (Ridge, N.Y.) and sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) each chipped in six kill for the winners.
Junior setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Ariz.) had 31 assists, seven digs, three kills and two blocks on the day.
Junior Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) led the UB backline with 10 digs, and Cilluffo plus senior Haley Andrews (Southington, Conn.) each added eight digs in the three sets.
Defense played a key role in Saturday's victory, as the Purple Knights had 10 total blocks led by six from junior Madison Jongsma (Sanford, Fla.).
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team opens a two-match road trip on Wednesday night at Felician University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
