Purple Knights' Volleyball Battles Top-Seed And Host Molloy To The End In Four Set Loss In 2019 NCAA East Regional Final
UB Finishes Impressive 2019 Season At 26-8 Overall
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The third-seeded University of Bridgeport Purple Knights gave the top-seeded and host Molloy College Lions all they could handle in the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball East Regional Final on Saturday night, but UB came up just short falling in four sets, 20-25, 20-25, 25-11, 21-25. Bridgeport closes out its impressive 2019 campaign with 26-8 record, and Molloy moves on to the NCAA Division II National Championship in Denver, Colorado next week with a 28-4 record.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Purple Knights in kills on in the Regional Final with 12. She was joined in double-digit kills by classmate Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) with 11, and Hennemann also finished with a double-double in the match registering 21 digs.
Senior Makayla Maroney (Parker, Colo.) had eight kills and six blocks on the night for the Purple Knights, and fellow middle, sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had seven kills and six blocks on the night.
Senior outside hitter, Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) out down eight kills for Bridgeport.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) had her third consecutive double-double of the 2019 NCAA East Regional finishing with 23 assists and 18 digs.
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the Bridgeport defense from the back row with 24 digs.
Molloy's Carly Banks led all players in the match with 13 kills.
Four Purple Knights, Emily Burford, Breanna Jones, Amanda Keller and Klein Johnson were named to the 2019 NCAA Division II All-East Region Team.
