Volleyball Battles But Falls To Top-Seeded Molloy In ECC Final
Purple Knights Now Await Word On NCAA At-Large Bid Which Will Be Announced On Monday Evening
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The second-seeded University of Bridgeport Purple Knights gave the top-seeded Molloy College Lions all they could handle on the Lions' home court on Saturday night in the 2019 East Coast Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Final, but UB came up short falling to the hosts in four sets, 20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 20-25. With the victory, Molloy (25-4) receives the ECC's automatic bid to this year's NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament that will begin on December 5th. UB (24-7) will await word on an at-large big to the National Championship. The pairings for this year's NCAA Championship will be announced at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
Senior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led the Purple Knights' offense with 13 kills in the final and finished with a double-double notching 12 digs.
Henneman was joined in double-digit kills by sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) with 11 and senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) with 10.
Sophomore setter Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) finished the match with a double-double of 20 assists and 13 digs, and junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) add 19 assists for Bridgeport.
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the UB backline with 23 digs.
