Bridgeport Volleyball Earns Win Number 20 Of The Season With Home Sweep Of Mercy College
Purple Knights Now 20-5 Overall And 6-1 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team earned win number 20 of the 2019 season on Thursday evening at home with a straight sets, 25-17, 25-23, 25-17, East Coast Conference victory over the Mercy College Mavericks. The Purple Knights are now 20-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Mercy slips to 9-15 overall and 2-4 in the ECC. UB last won at least 20 matches in a season in 2015 when the squad posted a 27-9 mark.
Senior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 12 kills, and she was joined in double figures by classmate Makayla Maroney (Parker, Colo.) with 10.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) had 18 assists, eight digs and two service aces on Thursday, and sophomore Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) added 15 assists, six digs and two aces for the Purple Knights.
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the UB defense with 11 digs for the winners.
As a team, Bridgeport amassed a total of 13 service aces in the three sets led by senior Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) with four.
The UB women's volleyball team will be back on the court a week from Friday on November 1, when the Purple Knights host Molloy College on Senior Night in Hubbell Gym. First serve in this important conference clash is set for 7:00 p.m.
