Volleyball's Rally Falls Short As St. Rose Tops UB, 3-2, On Thursday Night
Bridgeport Drops First Two Sets And Comes back To Take Sets Three And Four Before Visitors Take Deciding Set, 15-11
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team came back from being down two sets to none to tie the match at 2-2, but the visiting College of St. Rose Golden Knights prevailed in the fifth and deciding set, 15-11, to hand the Purple Knights their first home loss of 2019 (5-1) in a non-conference contest played on Thursday night in Hubbell Gym. UB dropped the first two sets, 20-25, 23-25 before rebounding to take the next two stanzas, 25-11, 25-16 before falling in the fifth set. Bridgeport is now 18-5 overall, and St. Rose ups its season mark to 9-11.
Four Purple Knights reached double digits in kills on Thursday, as senior Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) each had 13, and seniors Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) added 12 kills apiece. Knight also had 11 digs on the night, and Keller chipped five blocks. Hennemann added 22 digs, four blocks and two service aces for UB.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) had 27 assists and 10 digs for the Purple Knights in the five sets, and sophomore Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) finished the night with 23 assists and eight digs.
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the Bridgeport defense from the back row with a team-high 24 digs.
After a weekend off, the UB volleyball team will return to East Coast Conference play at home on Tuesday night when the Purple Knights host Queens (N.Y.) College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
