Purple Knights Punch Ticket To 2018 ECC Volleyball Championship Tournament With Sweep Over Roberts Wesleyan
UB Will Close Out Its 2018 Home Schedule Versus Daemen On Sunday At High Noon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team clinched a spot in next weekend's 2018 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament to be hosted by Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y. with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 home sweep over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. With the victory, the Purple Knights raise their overall season record to 14-11 and their conference mark to 8-5. The Redhawks slip to 4-18 overall and 3-10 in the ECC.
Bridgeport will be making its sixteenth consecutive conference championship tournament appearance next weekend.
On Saturday, junior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led a balanced UB offense that saw five players finish with at least five kills on the afternoon with eight kills of her own.
Senior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led Bridgeport with 19 assists, plus she also added four service aces.
Freshman Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Purple Knights with five service aces, as the team finished with 10 on the afternoon.
On defense for the Purple Knights, freshman Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) had 13 digs, and she was joined in double-digits by sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) with 11 digs.
Junior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M) and freshman Taylor Hyatt (Broomfield, Colo.) led the UB defense at the net, as they each had four blocks.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will close out its 2018 home schedule with a Senior Day ECC contest versus Daemen College. First serve is slated for 12 noon in Hubbell Gym.
