Purple Knights Earn Western New York Volleyball Split With Four-Set Triumph Over Roberts Wesleyan
Bridgeport Back In Action On Wednesday Night At Mercy To Start Second Round Of Conference Play
Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team earned a split of its Western New York trip on Saturday afternoon with a four-set, 25-27, 25-11, 25-20, 25-20, East Coast Conference victory over the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. UB is now 11-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. RWC slips to 3-13 overall and 2-5 in the ECC.
Junior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Bridgeport offense with 13 kills and a .462 attack percentage on the afternoon. Freshman Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also reached double-digit kills with 12.
Senior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) orchestrated the Purple Knights' offense with 39 assists in the win.
On defense, sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) finished with a team-high 21 digs, and she was joined in double figures by freshman Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) with 18 and junior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) with 13.
Freshman Taylor Hyatt (Broomfield, Colo.) was big at the net for UB with five blocks on the afternoon.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's volleyball team will continue its seven-match road trip at Mercy College for an ECC battle on Wednesday night. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
