Bridgeport Volleyball Opens ECC Play With Home Sweep Of Mercy
Purple Knights Hit .395 As A Team In Wednesday's Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its 2018 East Coast Conference schedule on Wednesday night with a straight sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21, win over the visiting Mercy College Mavericks in Hubbell Gym. The victory gives the Purple Knights a four-match winning streak, and UB is now 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the ECC. Mercy is now 2-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Junior Galia Nankin (Ra'anana, Israel) led a balanced offensive attack for the winners, who hit .395 as a team on the night, with nine kills. Junior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) and freshman Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) each had eight kills for Purple Knights. Keller hit a whopping .889 on Wednesday notching those eight kills on nine total attacks.
Junior Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and freshman Taylor Hyatt (Broomfield, Colo.), each had seven kills for Bridgeport, and Hyatt finished the evening with a .740 attack percentage.
Senior Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led UB with 27 assists, and freshman Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) also had double-digit assists with 11.
Freshman Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) topped the Purple Knights' defense with 13 digs, and sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) also had a strong night on defense adding 11 digs.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will step out of conference play for a match at Bentley University on Friday night. First serve in Waltham, Massachusetts is slated for 7:00 p.m.
