Balanced Offensive Attack Helps UB Volleyball Get Back In The Win Column With Home Sweep Over Queens (N.Y.)
Win Ups Team's Conference Record To 8-4
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak on Thursday night with a straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22, home East Coast Conference win of the visiting Knights of Queens (N.Y.) College. With the victory, UB is now 12-13 overall and 8-4 in the ECC. Queens slips to 5-16 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
Sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led a balanced Bridgeport offensive attack, which saw eight different player notch kills, with 10 on the night. Classmate Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) had nine kills for the winners, and freshman Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Tex.) had a fine all-around match with seven kills and 12 digs.
UB junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) recorded her second double-double in as many nights with 29 assists and a match-high 15 digs.
Freshman libero Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) chipped in nine digs for the Purple Knights on Thursday.
UB used it serving game well to help top Queens, as the team notched a total of 11 service aces in the three sets led by three apiece from Rich, Hennemann and Burford.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will begin play in the final week of the 2017 regular season with a key ECC home match versus LIU Post on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday will also be Senior Night for the Purple Knights.
