UB Volleyball Picks Up Third Straight Win With ECC Road Sweep Over Mercy
Purple Knights Now 11-11 Overall And 7-3 In Conference Play
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up its third straight victory and evened its season record at 11-11 and moved to 7-3 in East Coast Conference play with a straight sets, 25-20, 25-13, 25-18, road win over the host Mercy College Mavericks on Wednesday night. With the loss, Mercy slips to 6-20 overall and 0-10 in the ECC.
Sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M) had a solid all-around night for the winners leading the team with 13 kills, and she also added eight digs and six service aces. Classmate Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) had nine kills and seven digs for the Purple Knights, and senior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) chipped in six kills on the evening.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the Bridgeport offense with 34 assists, and Rich added six digs to the UB cause.
Freshman libero Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) continued her stellar play in the Purple Knights' back row so far in 2017 with a team and match-high 10 digs.
The UB women's volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow night when they travel to local rival the University of New Haven for a non-conference contest. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in West Haven.
