Volleyball Completes Weekend ECC Sweep With 3-0 Victory Over Roberts Wesleyan
Team Posts A .375 Hitting Percentage For The Second Straight Day
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team completed a weekend East Coast Conference sweep on Sunday afternoon in Hubbell Gym with a straight sets, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15, win over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. With the victory, UB is now 10-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play. RWC slips to 2-24 overall and 2-7 in the ECC.
For the second straight day, the Bridgeport offense was clicking on all cylinders as the Purple Knights hit .375 as a team in back-to-back matches. Sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led a balanced offensive attack with a match-high 14 kills. Burford was joined in double-digit kills by classmate Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) who registered 10 on the day.
Freshman Hunter Barker (Parker, Colo.) had seven kills without an error for the Purple Knights, and senior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) slammed six kills for the winners.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), who only saw action in two sets on Sunday, had 26 assists with seven digs and two kills. Freshman Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) also had double figures in assists with 10, and Johnson chipped in five digs and one kill.
Freshman libero Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) anchored the UB defense with a match-high 18 digs on the afternoon.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will open a two-match road swing next with an East Coast Conference versus Mercy College on Wednesday evening. The contest will take place at Dobbs Ferry High School and begin at 7:00 p.m.
