Purple Knights Back In Volleyball Win Column With ECC Home Sweep Over Daemen
UB Tops The Wildcats, 25-19, 25-21, 25-10
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak and picked up a key East Coast Conference victory on Saturday afternoon at home with a straight sets, 25-19, 25-21, 25-10, victory over the visiting Daemen College Wildcats. Saturday's result leaves both teams with 9-11 overall records and 5-3 marks in conference play.
As a team, the Purple Knights hit a blistering .375 on the day led by senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) who each had 10 kills, plus senior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) who added eight kills with a .533 hitting percentage on the day. Middleton also has four blocks in the match.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the UB offense with a match-high 33 assists in the three sets, and she also had a strong all-around day adding five digs, three kills, three block assists and one service ace.
Freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) led the Purple Knights' defense with a match-leading 10 digs on Saturday.
The UB women's volleyball is right back in action at home on Sunday, as the team will look to start a winning streak when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in an East Coast Conference contest that will begin in Hubbell Gym at 12 noon.
