UB Volleyball Tops Molloy In Five Sets
Purple Knights Have Now Won Three Matches In A Row And Six Of Its Last Seven
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team handed the visiting Molloy College Lions their first East Coast Conference loss of the 2017 season on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym, as UB scored the first seven points in the fifth and deciding set and never looked back, as the hosts posted a 19-25, 26-24, 25-22, 21-25, 15-4 victory. The win gives UB a three-match winning streak, and the team has now won six of its last seven outings to raise its overall record to 7-8, and its ECC mark to 3-1. Mollloy is now also 3-1 in conference play, and the Lions are 14-3 overall.
Sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led a balanced Purple Knights' attack on offense with 17 kills, as she hit .359 on the night. Amanda also finished with a double-double on the night registering 15 digs.
Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) each had 15 kills for the winners, and Santos fell just shy of a double-double with nine digs.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) notched her fourth straight double-double with 51 assists and 10 digs.
Freshman libero Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) anchored the Bridgeport defense with a team-high 19 digs.
As a team, the Purple Knights had a season-best 14 total blocks led by freshman Hunter Barker (Parker, Colo.) and senior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas), who both has one solo block and six block assists.
The UB volleyball team is right back in action on Wednesday night, as they travel to New York City to face the Queens College Knights in conference action. First serve in Flushing is slated for 7:00 p.m.
