Purple Knights Sweep Past Mercy In ECC Volleyball Action
UB Posts 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team cruised to its fourth victory in its last five matches with a straight sets, 25-16, 25-11, 25-17, East Coast Conference home win over the Mercy College Mavericks. UB is now 5-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Mercy slips to 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 10 kills and finished the night with a .409 hitting percentage, as she had only one error all night long.
Sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) fell just short of her fourth straight double-double, as she finished the match with eight kills and 12 digs. Freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) also finished the evening with 12 digs for the winners. Hennemann hit .500 on the night, as she did commit an error on 16 attacks.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) posted a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.
Sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) chipped in seven kills, and freshman Hunter Barker (Parker, Colo.) had six kills for the victorious Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Stonehill College for a non-conference contest.
