Bridgeport Sweeps Past St. Rose In Non-Conference Volleyball Action
Junior Setter Ellie Rich Surpasses 2,500 Career Assists Plateau
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up back-to-back victories for the first time this season with a straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-14, home, non-conference win over the visiting College of St. Rose Golden Knights on Tuesday evening in Hubbell Gym. UB is now 3-7 overall, and St. Rose slips to 6-7 so far in 2017.
Sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) posted a double-double on the night leading the Purple Knights with 12 kills and chipping in 12 digs.
Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) had eight kills in the win, and sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) added seven kills for the winners.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), who had a match-leading 32 assists, surpassed the 2,500 mark in helpers for her career on Tuesday, as Rich now has a total of 2,511 assists just 10 matches into her junior year.
Freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) led Bridgeport and all players on the night with 13 digs in the victory.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will open 2017 East Coast Conference on Friday night at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Western New York.
