Purple Knights Battle But Fall Short In Four-Set Home Volleyball Loss To Adelphi
Team Back In Action At Franklin Pierce On Friday Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-The host University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team battled the visiting Adelphi University Panthers all night long, but AU prevailed in a tight, four-set, non-conference match in UB's Hubbell Gym on Wednesday night. Bridgeport fell by scores of 27-29, 23-25, 30-28, 21-25. The Purple Knights are now 1-7 in 2017, and Adelphi ups its season mark to 3-6.
Freshman Hunter Barker (Parker, Colo.) led three Purple Knights in double-digit kills with 16. She was joined in double figures by sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) with 13 kills, and senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) chipped in 12 kills.
Both Hennemann and Santos finished with double-doubles, as Amanda added 11 digs and Bruna had 13 digs on the night.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a double-double with a season-best 41 assists and 12 digs.
Sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) was just shy of a double-double on Wednesday with 13 digs and nine kills.
Freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) anchored the Bridgeport defense with 16 digs in the four sets.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will looking to snap its six-match losing streak on the road at Franklin Pierce University on Friday night. First serve in Rindge, N.H. is slated for 7:00 p.m.
