Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its 2017 home scheduled on Tuesday evening in Hubbell Gym with a straight sets (17-25, 14-25, 21-25) loss to the defending NCAA Division II East Region Champions, the Yellow Jackets of American International College. UB is now 1-6 on the season, and AIC ups its season mark to 6-3.
Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) led the Purple Knights with seven kills, and she was followed by classmate Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) and sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil), who each had six kills.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 18 assists on the night, and freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) led the Bridgeport defense with 11 digs.
Up next, the UB volleyball team will look to snap a five-match losing skid when the Purple Knights host Adelphi University tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.
