St. Charles. Mo.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Lindenwood University Challenge outside of St. Louis on Saturday with a pair of losses. UB, now 1-5 on the 2017 season, opened action on Saturday with a 15-25, 18-25, 9-25 loss to Missouri Western and followed that up with a straight set defeat versus St. Mary's (Tex.) University, 19-25, 22-25, 19-25.
Against Missouri Western, sophomore Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Purple Knights with six kills, and classmate Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) had a match-leading 13 digs. Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) dished out 21 assists in Saturday's opener.
Freshman Hunter Barker (Parker, Colo.) led UB with seven kills in Saturday's final match versus St. Mary's, and Amanda Hennemann again led the team in digs with 12. San Antonio, Texas-native, freshman Klein Johnson playing against a school from her hometown led Bridgeport with 14 assists and chipped in two service aces.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will open its 2017 home schedule on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym when 2016 NCAA East Regional Champions, the Yellow Jackets of American International College, come to campus for a 7:00 p.m. match.
