Volleyball Falls In ECC Championship Semifinals To NYIT, 3-1
UB Closes Out 2016 Season At 14-13 Overall
Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball battled on Friday night, but the Purple Knights saw their 2016 season come to end with a four-set loss to the NYIT Bears (23-25, 26-24, 23-25, 13-25)) in the semifinals of the 2016 East Coast Conference Volleyball Championship Friday night in Western New York hosted by Daemen College. The number three-seed Purple Knights close out their 2016 camping with a 14-13 record, and NYIT advance to face the host and top-seeded Diemen College Wildcats in the ECC Finals with a 27-5 mark.
Senior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) led the Bridgeport offense with 13 kills on Friday night.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and freshman Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo,) each fell just shy of a double-double in the loss, as Cruz had nine kills and 25 digs and Knight contributed nine kills and 13 dugs.
UB sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the UB offense with 35 assists
Senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) had 17 digs on Friday night to close out her stellar Bridgeport career in the back row.
