Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Four-Set Match At NYIT In 2016 Regular Season Finale
Same Two Will Meet Again Next Friday In ECC Championship Tournament Semifinals
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2016 regular season with a hard-fought, four-set loss at East Coast Conference rival NYIT on Thursday night, UB took set one, 25-23, but fell in the next three stanzas, 23-25, 22-25, 20-25. The Purple Knights are now 14-12 overall and finish at 10-4 in conference play. The host Bears are now 26-5 overall and 11-3 in the ECC. The same two teams will meet again next Friday night in Amherst, New York at Daemen College in the 2016 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament semifinal. UB is the third seed in the ECC Championship; while NYIT is the second seed.
Senior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) led the Bridgeport offense with 15 kills on Thursday night, and she was just shy of a double-double with nine digs.
Seniors Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) each finished with a double-double, as they each had 14 kills and Cruz had 17 digs and Guinci had 18 digs.
UB sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had her own double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs.
Senior Salina DeCicco (Kingston, N.Y.), who started at libero for the Purple Knights for the second straight match, finished with a team-best 20 digs.
