UB Volleyball Registers Four-Set Win Over Southern Connecticut State
Team Now Set To Make Important Weekend ECC Road Swing To Western New York
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team stumbled in the first set falling to the visiting Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 20-25, but the host Purple Knights quickly rebounded to sweep the next three sets , 25-20, 25-15, 25-19, to pick up a non-conference win in Hubbell Gym on Tuesday night. With the victory, UB is now 12-10 overall. SCSU slips to 14-16 with the loss.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was outstanding on the night for the winners leading Bridgeport on offense with 14 kills and finishing with a double-double, as she notched a match-high 20 digs. Cruz also chipped in two service aces and two assists for the winners.
Senior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) and junior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) each had 11 kills on the night, and both player hit extremely well in the win, as hit .476 and Santos posted a sizzling .524 attack percentage recording those 11 kills without an error on 21 attacks.
Sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a match-high 42 assists for the Purple Knights along with seven digs, two kills and one service ace and a block assists.
UB senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) had a fine night in the Bridgeport back row amassing 19 digs.
Up next, the UB volleyball team will head for Western New York for a pair of East Coast Conference contests, as Bridgeport faces Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., and then Daemen College in Amherst on Saturday afternoon at 12 noon.
