Volleyball Suffers First Home And Conference Loss Of 2016 In Four Sets Versus Daemen College

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball suffered its first home and first East Coast Conference loss of the 2016 season in Hubbell Gym on Sunday afternoon, as the host Purple Knights were defeated by the visiting Daemen College Wildcats in four sets, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 27-25. UB is now 7-8 overall and 4-1 in ECC action. The Wildcats are now 11-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Senior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) and junior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) led Bridgeport in kills with eight apiece on Sunday. Santos also added a team-high four service aces.
UB senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had six kills and 10 digs on the day, and junior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) and freshman Claire Anderson (Oak Harbor, Wash.) also chipped in six kills for the Purple Knights. Middleton led all players in the match with four blocks (three solos).
Sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 35 assists for Bridgeport, and senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) registered a match-high 27 digs on defense for the Purple Knights.
The UB women's volleyball team will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday night when the Purple Knights travel to Long Island for an East Coast Conference match at Molloy College. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in Rockville Centre, New York.
