Balanced Offensive Attack Helps Volleyball To Four-Set ECC Victory Over Roberts Wesleyan
Team Right Back In Action On Sunday At Home Versus Daemen
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play at 4-0 and evened its 2016 season record at 7-7 with a four-set home win over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. After dropping the first set 22-25, UB came back to win the match 25-18, 25-17, 25-15. With the loss, RWC is now 6-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Bridgeport used a balance offensive attack to pick up the victory, as four players recorded double-digit kills. Three Purple Knights, Frida Randen (Sr. Sodertalje, Sweden), junior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) and freshman Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), each had a team-high 11 kills on the day. Randen hit .529 in the match and added four service aces and three total blocks, and Middleton chipped in four total blocks for the winners.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) finished with a double-double, as she had 10 kills and 13 digs on the afternoon.
Junior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) notched nine kills for Bridgeport on Saturday.
UB sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) dished out a match-high 43 assists and fell just shy of a double-double with nine digs.
Senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) continued to be a defensive stalwart for the Purple Knights registering a match-leading 33 digs.
The UB women's volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, October 9, as the Purple Knights hosts the Wildcats of Daemen College in ECC action. First serve is set for 12 noon.
