Purple Knights Move To 3-0 In ECC Volleyball Play With Home Sweep Over Queens (N.Y.) College
Bruna Santos And Morgan Knight Lead the Team With 10 Kills Apiece
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team moved to a perfect 3-0 in East Coast Conference play and upped its overall record to 4-6 so in 2016 with a straight sets, home win over the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Thursday evening in Hubbell Gymnasium. UB won the match, 25-12, 27-25, 25-21.
Junior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) and freshman Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch. Colo.) led the Bridgeport offense, as they each amassed 10 kills. Santos hit an impressive .500 on the night recording those 10 kills on 20 attacks with no errors. Knight also contributed seven digs and three service aces.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and junior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas), each turned in strong performances for the winners, as Cruz had seven kills, seven digs, three service aces two blocks and on assist. Middleton also had seven kills, and she played top-notch defense at the net with five total blocks (two solos).
UB sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch. Colo.) ran her team's offense to the tune of a game-high 30 assists, and she also contributed four kills without an error on 10 total attacks.
Senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) was all over the court on defenWse for the Purple Knights on Thursday, as she notched a game-high 23 digs in the three sets.
The UB volleyball team, winners of four of their last five matches, are right back in action tomorrow, Friday, September 20, as they travel to Albany, New York to take on the College of St. Rose Golden Knights. Action is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
