Purple Knights Run Volleyball Winning Streak To Three With Four-Set Home Victory Over Franklin Pierce
Team Is Back In Action On Tuesday At Adelphi
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up its third consecutive victory on Friday night in Hubbell Gym, as the host Purple Knights grabbed a four-set, 25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17, non-conference win over the visiting Franklin Pierce University Ravens. UB is now 3-5 in 2016, and the Ravens fall to 5-7 on the season.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) continued her strong early season play finishing with a game-high 15 kills and a double-double adding 10 digs. Cruz also led Bridgeport with three service aces.
Freshman Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also notched a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs.
UB senior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) reached double-figure kills with 10, and she finished with a .421 hitting percentage.
Juniors Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) and Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil), each had strong matches on Friday, as they each chipped in nine kills. Middleton added two blocks, and Santos had six digs for the winners.
Sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished just shy of a double-double with a match-high 42 assists and eight digs. Ellie also had three kills on the night.
Bridgeport senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led her team on defense with 26 digs.
After taking the weekend off, the UB women's volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, September 27 with another non-conference contest traveling to Adelphi University. Match time on Long Island is set for 7:00 p.m.
