UB Volleyball Now 2-0 In Conference Play After Sweep At Mercy
Team Right Back In Action On Friday Night At Home Versus Franklin Pierce
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball picked up its second straight win and moved to 2-0 in East Coast Conference play with a straight sets, 31-29, 25-16, 25-11, victory over the host Mercy College Mavericks on Thursday evening. The Purple Knights are now 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the ECC. Mercy remains winless so far in 2016 at 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led UB with 13 kills and hit .435 on the night. Cruz was joined in double-digit kills by freshman Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) who finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs, plus she added three service aces.
Sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the Bridgeport offense with a match-high 30 assists, and she also chipped in six kills with no errors in the match.
Junior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas) had a strong contest for the winners contributing six kills with no errors and four total blocks.
As a team, the Purple Knights finished with a .309 hitting percentage. After a slow start in set one with a .174 attack percentage, UB then hit .455 in set two and .414 in set three.
On defense, senior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) recorded a game-high 14 digs.
The UB women's volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow night (Friday, September 23) when the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University come to Hubbell Gym for a non-conference clash. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
