Purple Knights Rally To Take Four-Set Volleyball Win At Franklin Pierce
UB Now 20-8 Overall
Rindge, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up a four-set, non-conference road win on Friday over the host Franklin Pierce University Ravens in a battle of regionally-ranked team, as the second-ranked Purple Knights stopped sixth-ranked FPU, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17. UB is now 20-8 overall, and Franklin Pierce is 16-8 overall.
After falling in the first set, UB trailed by 19-23 score in set number two before running six consecutive points to even the match at a set apiece with a 25-23 victory.
The Purple Knights also faced several big deficits in the third set trailing 10-18, 13-20 and 14-21 before railing to take a 22-21 lead. The host Ravens would come back to take a 23-22 lead before Bridgeport would run off the win three points of the frame to take the third set, 25-23.
UB would finish things off with a 25-17 win in the fourth set, a set in which they only trailed once at 0-1.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) led Bridgeport with 15 kills, and she finished with a double-double adding 10 digs.
UB senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) also finished with a double-double slamming 10 kills and recording 16 digs.
Junior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) played a strong evening at the net notching eight kills and six blocks (one solo).
Senior Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) also had eight kills for the winners.
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 37 assists on the night, plus she contributed eight digs and four kills.
Junior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led the Bridgeport defense with 19 kills 19 digs.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will travel to Oakdale, N.Y. for a key East Coast Conference tilt versus Dowling College on Tuesday night. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
