Volleyball Defeats Queens (N.Y.) In Four Sets
Purple Knights Drop Set One But Comeback To Move To 12-1 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team got off to a slow start on Thursday night in an East Coast Conference home match against the pesky Queens (N.Y.) College Knights dropping the first set 24-26 and trailing in the second set, 17-21, but the Purple Knights rebounded to score the final eight points of set two to win, 25-21, on their way to a four-set victory. UB won the third set, 25-14, and took set four, 25-15. Bridgeport is now 19-8 overall and 12-1 in the ECC. Queens slips to 10-14 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) led three Bridgeport players in double-digit kills with 12, and she added eight digs.
Classmates Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) each had 10 kills for the winners. Cruz added seven digs and three block assists, and Randen chipped in with seven block assists, four service aces and five digs. As a team, Bridgeport had 11 blocks on Thursday night.
UB freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a fine all-around night with 39 assists, six digs, five kills and three block assists.
On defense, junior Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) had 14 digs, and senior Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) had 10 digs for the winners.
The UB volleyball team is right back in action on Friday, as they travel to New Hampshire to face Franklin Pierce University in a battle of regionally-ranked squads.
