Bridgeport Volleyball Bests LIU Post In Four Sets
Purple Knights Now 10-1 In The ECC And 17-8 Overall
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack and a defense that produced 10 total team blocks and 54 digs to get back in the win column with a four-set, 25-19, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, East Coast Conference win over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 17-8 overall and 10-1 in conference play. LIUP is now 18-8 overall and 6-5 in conference action.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) led the Purple Knights with a double-double on 14 kills and 14 digs. She also added two block assists and one service ace.
Senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil), who notched the match-ending kill in set number four, finished the night with 11 kills and seven digs, plus she contributed two block assists and one service ace.
Junior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) also notched double-digit kills for the Purple Knights with 11.
UB junior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) had an excellent night at the net for the winners slamming eight kills with a .304 hitting percentage, plus she chipped in one solo black and six block assists.
Senior Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) helped the Bridgeport offense with seven kills and also had two block assists.
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands, Ranch, Colo.) directed the Purple Knights offense with 41 assists, plus she also had four kills, three digs plus one solo block and one block assist.
Junior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led the UB defense with a match-high 21 digs, and she recorded two service aces.
Danielle Valenza led the Pioneers with 13 kills on the night.
Up next, the UB volleyball team travels to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to face the Mercy College Mavericks in ECC play on Thursday evening. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
