Women's Volleyball Opens Western New York Swing With Sweep At Roberts Wesleyan
UB Now 14-7 Overall And 7-0 In The ECC
Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its weekend trip to Western New York in fine style picking a three-set, East Coast Conference sweep over the host Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks on Friday night. UB defeated RWC, 25-12, 25-9, 25-15. UB is now 14-7 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The Purple Knights have also won 11 of their last 12 matches. The Redhawks are now 1-13 overall and 1-6 in the ECC.
The Bridgeport offense was firing on all cylinders on Friday, as the Purple Knights finished with a season-best .436 attack percentage.
Junior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led UB in kills in the win with 11, and she also chipped in four block assists.
Classmate Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) dominated at the net on Friday, as she slammed nine kills and had eight block assists Randen hit .750 on the night, as she had those nine kills on 12 total attacks with zero errors.
Another UB junior, Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) added eight kills on the evening.
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the UB offense to the tune of 35 assists.
On defense, junior Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led the team with eight digs.
It will be a short night for the UB women's volleyball team, as the Purple Knights are right back in action on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. when they head to Amherst, N.Y. to face East Coast Conference foe, Daemen College.
