UB Women's Volleyball Remains Perfect In ECC Play At 4-0 With Home Sweep Of Mercy
Junior Katarina Krstonosic Notches Sixth Straight Double-Double With 17 Kills And 12 Digs
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball remained perfect in East Coast Conference play at 4-0 and raised its overall record to 8-6 with a straight sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 home win over the visiting Mercy College Mavericks on Thursday night. UB has now won five matches in a row and six of its last seven outings. Mercy is now 4-12 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) notched her sixth consecutive double-double, as she slammed a match-high 17 kills for the Purple Knights with an impressive .536 attack percentage and added 12 digs.
UB senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) also had a double-double for the winners with 10 kills and 10 digs. Classmate Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) had a nice night in the win with eight kills and a .583 attack percentage. As a team, the hosts hit .340 on the evening with 48 kills on 103 attacks with 13 errors.
Bridgeport freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the Purple Knights' offense to the tune of 41 assists, and Rich added seven digs and a pair of service aces.
Junior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led the UB defense with a match-best 14 digs.
The Bridgeport women's volleyball team is right back in action at home on Friday night, as the Purple Knights will look to run their winning streak to six matches with a non-conference tilt against Bentley University in a 2014 NCAA Division II East Regional Semifinal rematch. First serve in Hubbell Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
