Volleyball Falls In Five-Sets At New Haven In Battle Of East Region Heavyweights
Purple Knights Will Open ECC Play Next At Molloy On Tuesday Night
West Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team fell in five-sets in a battle of NCAA Division II East Region heavyweights at the University of New Haven on Wednesday night, 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 6-15. UB is now 3-6 on the season, and the host Chargers up their record to 6-3 so far in 2015. New Haven hit a sizzling .583 as a team in the deciding fifth set.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kiknda, Serbia) led the Purple Knights in kills with 16 and recorded a double-double with 20 digs.
Senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) joined Krstonsic in double-digit kills with 13.
UB junior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) chipped in six blocks and eight kills on the night.
Kristen Lee led three Chargers in double-figure kills with 13.
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 41 assists for UB, and junior Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led all players in the match on defense with 32 digs.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will open East Coast Conference play at Molloy College on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m., and the Purple Knights will play their 2015 home opener next Thursday, September 24, when they host NYIT in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
