Volleyball Picks Up Ninth Straight Win With Sweep At Adelphi
Purple Knights Have Now Also Won 18 Of Last 19 Matches And Are 21-2 Overall
Garden City, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up its ninth consecutive victory and won for the eigthteenth time in its last nineteen outings with a 25-22, 28-26, 25-13 road, non-conference sweep over the host Adelphi University Panthers on Tuesday night. UB is now 21-2 overall. Adelphi slips to an even 13-13 so far in 2014.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the Purple Knights' offense 12 kills, and she notched a double-double with 10 digs on the night plus also contributed three service aces.
Graduate student Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) had a double-double and fell just shy of a triple-double with 10 kills, 25 assists and eight digs.
Bridgeport senior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had a big night on offense for the winners recording 10 kills with a .412 attack percentage.
Classmate Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) was just short of double-digit kills with nine, and Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) helped direct the Bridgeport offense with 16 assists.
Junior libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) led the Purple Knights defense with 11 digs, and senior Amanda Kunrath (Ivoti, Brazil) had a team-best four blocks in the three-set win.
Up next, the UB volleyball team will close out the 2014 regular and East Coast Conference seasons at Queens (N.Y.) College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. The Purple Knights will look to finish the 2014 ECC schedule at 16-0. After Thursday's regular season finale, UB will host this season's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament in Hubbell Gym on November 14 and 15.
