UB Volleyball Sweeps NYIT To Lock Up Top Seed And Hosting Duties For 2014 ECC Championship Tournament
Purple Knights Now 18-2 Overall And A Perfect 13-0 In ECC Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) crushed a match-high 15 kills with a .519 attack percentage, plus she added six digs, four blocks and three service aces to help the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team to a straight sets, 25-21, 25-15, 25-11, home East Coast Conference win over the visiting NYIT Bears in Hubbell Gym on Thursday night. With the win, UB is now 18-2 overall and remains perfect in ECC play at 13-0. The Purple Knights have also now won six matches in a row and 15 of the last 16 matches. The Bears are now 11-15 overall and 7-6 in conference action. With Thursday's victory, UB has also clinched at least a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and hosting duties for the 2014 ECC Championship Tournament which will be played on November 14 and 15. This marks the third straight season the Purple Knights will host the ECC Volleyball Championship.
Joining Rosa in double-digit kills for Bridgeport were seniors Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Amanda Kunrath (Ivoti, Brazil) who each had 10.Oliveira had a .562 attack percentage on the night, and Kunrath hit an impressive .750 with a match-leading six blocks.
Graduate students Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each had 19 assists on the night directing the Bridgeport offense. Savic shipped in seven kills, and Soares was just short of a double-double with nine digs.
Junior libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) led the Purple Knights' backline with a match-best 14 digs.
Up next for the Bridgeport women's volleyball team is a trip to Long Island on Tuesday night for an ECC tussle at LIU Post. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
